CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for the university's student-athletes covering all the Beavers' 17 varsity sports. This partnership creates new opportunities for Oregon State's student-athletes to financially profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) through the use of the school's official trademarks and logos.
"All of us at Oregon State will continue to find ways to support our student-athletes with NIL opportunities," Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Barnes said. "Partnering with The Brandr Group, and including group licensing programs, will provide all of our student-athletes additional ways to benefit. Beaver fans will now be able to support student-athletes by purchasing official merchandise that highlights their favorite Oregon State athletes."
The new partnership will open new doors for student-athletes from all of Oregon State's varsity sports, allowing for the collective use of players' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with the Oregon State logos and marks. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join a group licensing program. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes, and the program does not limit individual NIL rights.
"NIL has completely changed the game when it comes to how student-athletes can market themselves, and its opened new doors for iconic athletic programs and their fans," said Rick Perko, Vice President of Program Development at TBG. "Oregon State student-athletes, through this group licensing partnership, will now be able to benefit from their NIL through co-branded opportunities across the Beavers' impressive merchandising and sponsorship portfolio. This also opens new avenues for Oregon State's passionate fan base to be able to support their favorite players, and we're looking forward to bringing this program to life."
Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a large portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program opens the door for the same opportunities for student-athletes at the collegiate level. Through this new partnership, Oregon State fans can expect to be able to purchase official Beaver merchandise, including team jerseys, with the name and number of their favorite players who have joined the respective group licensing program once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages the group rights program for the NFL, NBA and MLB players' associations in the college space.
