Lake, Fuenmayor Lead Men’s Golf After One Day In Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Jackson Lake shot a 2-under 140 over 36 holes to pace the Oregon State men's golf team at the first day of the par-71 Thunderbird Collegiate Friday. The tournament is hosted by Arizona State.

Mateo Fuenmayor had a stellar second round, finishing with a 4-under 67. That was the best round of the day by a Beaver, narrowly besting Lake, who tallied a 2-under 69 in the second round of 18.

Lake leads the Beavers into the second day of action tied for 19th. He's just ahead of Fuenmayor, whose 4-under in the second round negated a 4-over 75 in the first.

It's the second time this season Fuenmayor has finished a round at 4-under, but the first time in a par-71. He shot a 4-under 68 in the first round of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate.

Lake and Fuenmayor combined for 16 birdies on the first day of action. Fuenmayor is tied for 29th after 36 holes.

As a team, Oregon State finished 11th after 36 holes. The Beavers shot a 2-under 282 after posting a 9-over 293 to open the day.

Carson Barry enters Saturday's action at 3-over 145. He finished at par in the second round after coming in at 3-over 74 in the first. Barry is tied for 51st.

Brandon Eyre was 2-over par after the first round. He'll enter the final 18 tied at 80th after posting an 8-over 150 on the first day.

Nolan Thoroughgood picked up a 4-over 75 in the second round after finishing at 9-over 80 in the first 18. He is tied for 86th.

Play continues Saturday with the final round of the tournament. A shotgun start is scheduled for 7 a.m. PT.
