PHOENIX, Ariz. – Kelsey Webster fired a career-best 2-under 70 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational on Friday.

The Beavers are in eighth place after opening the tourney with a 6-over 294 at the par-72, 6,426-yard Papago Golf Course. The field includes 12 of the 16 teams ranked among the Top 50 in the nation in the latest Golfstat.com rankings.

The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.

The 2-under 70 by Webster is her best score while competing at Oregon State. She shot a 1-under 71 at the Molly Collegiate Invitational and a 1-under 70 at the Stanford Intercollegiate this past fall.

She started on the 10th hole and eagled the par-5, 508-yard 15th hole and went 3 under over the final 10 holes to post the 2-under 70 that has her tied for eighth place.

Webster transferred to Oregon State in May 2021 after playing the last three seasons at the University of Colorado. Her best score with the Buffs was a 1-under 71 at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational as a junior.

Danique Stokmans and Ellie Slama both carded a 2-over 74 that has them in a tie for 36th place.

Stokmans birdied two of her first four holes -- the par-5 10th and par-4 13th holes -- and had two bogeys and a double the rest of the way for her 74

Slama was 3 over through seven holes but went 1 under the next 11 holes to finish with a 74. Her birdies came on the par-4 third and par-5 ninth holes.

Chayse Gomez was 4 over through her first seven holes but played even golf the rest of the day to shoot a 4-over 76. She birdied the par-5 first and par-5 ninth holes, giving her momentum heading into Saturday's round.

Amanda Minni was even through her first 13 holes but ran into some trouble on three of the last five holes and finished the opening round with a 6-over 78.

Host Arizona State sits in first place with an 8-under 280 and the Sun Devils' Alexandra Fosterling has the individual lead after firing a 6-under 66.
