TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Chayse Gomez fired an even-par 72 to help the Oregon State women's golf team get off to a great start at the Florida State Match-Up on Friday.

The Beavers finished the opening round with an 8-over 296 at the par-72, 6,255-yard Seminole Legacy Golf Club that has them in fourth place in the 12-team field.

Florida State and Virginia Tech are tied for first place with an even-par 288 and Oregon sits in third place with a 2-over 290.

The second round of the three-day tournament begins at 5:30 a.m. PT (8:30 a.m. ET) on Saturday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com. Oregon State will start on the first hole at 5:40 a.m. PT (8:40 a.m. ET) and be paired with Arizona and Clemson.

"I'm really pleased with the way the team played and handled some very tricky pin placements," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "We had a great practice round and good prep going into the round, and I'm happy to see them manage the course so well.

"We are in a good spot going into the weekend and I'm looking forward to watching them get out there and compete."

Gomez, a native of Yorba Linda, Calif., started on the 10th hole and was 2 under through her first 11 holes. She bogeyed three holes before ending the day with a birdie on the par-4, 400-yard ninth hole to put her in a tie for eighth place. Her other birdies came on the par-5, 470-yard 14th and par-3, 120-yard 15th holes.

Danique Stokmans had a team-best four birdies in the opening round that helped her finish the day with a 1-over 73 and good for a tie for 12th place.

Madde Sund is the third Beaver who is in the top 20 after shooting a 3-over 75. She had two birdies and nothing worse than a bogey to put her in a tie for 19th place. Issy Taylor is tied for 28th place after carding a 4-over 76 that included two birdies.

Amanda Minni dropped in three birdies but took an unfortunate quadruple-bogey and finished the day with an 8-over 80.
