February 22, 2022 | Wrestling
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State redshirt junior Grant Willits has been named the Pac-12's Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Willits picked up a pair of victories as the Beavers defeated CSU Bakersfield and Stanford this past weekend. Notably, he pinned the nation's No. 4 wrestler, Real Woods of Stanford, in 3:54 on Sunday as the Beavers defeated Stanford, 30-9.
The victory at 141 pounds gave Willits an OSU-best 22 victories on the season.
Willits, who came into the weekend ranked 13th nationally by Intermat, opened his weekend with a 20-2 technical fall over CSU Bakersfield's Louie Ramos. The win helped the Beavers to a 39-5 victory over the Roadrunners in Bakersfield.
Willits will next compete in the Pac-12 Championships in Tempe, Ariz., on March 6. He will take a 15-match win streak into the championships, which is the second longest by a Beaver this season, trailing Gary Traub's 17 straight.
Willits is the fourth Beaver to be recognized this season, joining Mateo Olmos, Devan Turner and Hunter Willits. OSU leads the Pac-12 with four separate individual honors this season.
