Spokane Indoor Up Next for Beavers

SPOKANE, Wash. – Oregon State Track and Field will close 2022 with a handful of season debuts at the Spokane Indoor meet on Saturday. Â

The meet is hosted by the Spokane Sports Commission at The Podium, which is located near Riverfront Park. It will be streamed live on RunnerSpace with live results available here.

LAST TIME OUT
Oregon State is coming off a record-breaking meet from Kaylee Mitchell and Grace Fetherstonhaugh, who both surpassed the previous school record in the 3,000 meters. Mitchell led the three Beavs competing with a fifth-place finish in 8:55.10, breaking her previous school record of 8:58.39. She was tailed by Fetherstonhaugh who finished three places behind in 8:55.71.

Their performances also placed the duo third and fifth, respectively, on the all-time Pac-12 lists. Mitchell and Fetherstonhaugh posted the best two 3,000 meter times since 2020.Â

Not to be overlooked, Christina Geisler also posted the race of her indoor career in the 3,000. The senior set a personal best with a 9:25.69, beating her previous best by four seconds in the first race of the year.

2022 INDOOR SEASON REVIEW
The Beavs are coming off a productive indoor season that saw them score at the NCAA Championships for the first time while head coach Louie Quintana was named West Region Coach of the Year by the USTFCCCA.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Mitchell, Adael Scatena, Mari Friedman, and Fetherstonhaugh raced to a fourth-place finish and first-team All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The quartet stopped the clock at 10:58.76. Fetherstonhaugh and Mitchell also competed in the 3000 meters on finishing 9th (9:05.13) and 12th (9:08.58), respectively, to earn second-team All-America honors.

At the Pac-12 Invitational, Mitchell broke nine minutes in the 3000 meters, garnering a first-place finish with an indoor personal-best and Oregon State school record of 8:58.39. Mitchell, Scatena, Friedman, and Fetherstonhaugh shattered the previous Oregon State DMR record of 11:24.59 by stopping the clock at 10:57.35 to place second in the race.
