
Beavers Drop Match at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oregon State men's soccer team fell to San Diego State 3-0 in Pac-12 action Sunday afternoon in San Diego, Calif.

The Beavers controlled significant stretches of the match, creating numerous scoring chances and leading the shot-count 14-12. Oregon State also earned nine corner kicks, compared to just one for San Diego State.

The Aztecs opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest, finding the net at the 2:55 mark. Oregon State controlled the possession from there, looking to equalize.

Clarence Awoudor fired a cross through the box in the 14th minute, but the Beavers were unable to find the necessary touch to direct it into the net. Oregon State had back-to-back scoring chances from Dante Williams and Awoudor in the 15th and 16th minutes, but both shots were wide of the target.

Javier Armas took aim on a free kick from 21 yards out in the 26th minute, but the wall did its job. Awoudor whipped in a couple dangerous crosses late in the opening 45 to no avail, and the Beavers headed to the intermission trailing 1-0.

Oregon State continued to press forward in the second half, earning a number of set pieces. Nicklas Lund forced a save with a header in the 51st, but San Diego State was able to tack on a second goal in the 56th minute.

The Beavers created some late chances, but the Aztecs sealed the contest when they converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute following a hand ball in the box. Eneko Clemente forced an acrobatic reaction save as time expired, as San Diego State was able to hold the clean sheet.

Oregon State will return home this week to face California (Thursday) and Stanford (Sunday).
