Beaver signee headed to summer games
CORVALLIS – Future Oregon State gymnast Jade Carey will represent the U.S.A. as an individual at this summer's Olympics, U.S.A. Gymnastics officially announced following Olympic Trials on Sunday.
Â
Entering the Trials, Carey had already punched her ticket to Tokyo via individual qualification, and had expressed her intention to accept the individual invitation to the Olympics once it was officially offered. She earned her place with impressive performances at four World Cup competitions between 2018 and 2019. Her accomplishments over that stretch were highlighted by gold-medal performances on vault and floor at both the 2019 FIG Individual Apparatus World in Baku, Azerbaijan and the 2019 FIG World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
Â
Gymnastics competition at the 2020 Olympic Games (rescheduled to the summer of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) will begin on July 25 at the Ariake Gymnastics Center in Tokyo.
Â
USA Gymnastics' announcement comes on the heels of Carey competing in Olympic Trials on Friday and Sunday. Her performances included a score of 15.200 on vault during Friday's first session, the second-highest score on the apparatus that day. She also posted a 13.433 on beam and a 13.733 on bars on Sunday.
