Carey Set to Compete at Olympic Trials
June 24, 2021 | Women's Gymnastics
Trials begin Friday evening
CORVALLIS – Future Oregon State gymnast Jade Carey is slated to compete U.S. Olympic Trials this weekend in St. Louis, Mo.
The trials are scheduled to begin Friday at 5 p.m., and will continue Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Action on both days will be carried live on NBC. The top-two all-around finishers at the event will automatically earn spots on the U.S.A. squad, with the other two positions being selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Gymnastics competition at the 2020 Olympic Games (rescheduled to the summer of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) will begin on July 25 at the Ariake Gymnastics Center in Tokyo.
Carey has already punched her ticket to Tokyo via individual qualification, and has expressed her intention to accept the individual invitation to the Olympics once it is officially offered. She earned her place with impressive performances at four World Cup competitions between 2018 and 2019. Her accomplishments over that stretch were highlighted by gold-medal performances on vault and floor at both the 2019 FIG Individual Apparatus World in Baku, Azerbaijan and the 2019 FIG World Cup in Doha, Qatar.
Carey signed a National Letter of Intent with the Beavers in the fall of 2017, and is expected to join the OSU gymnastics program in time for the 2022 season.
