Quarantine Q & A with Lena Greene
May 20, 2020 | Women's Gymnastics
Our gymnastics quarantine series continues with a Q & A with fifth-year senior Lena Greene, who is recovering from an injury that wiped out her 2020 season.
Â
Q: Where are you quarantining?
A: At home in Tigard, Ore.
Â
Q: What is the biggest positive to come from your quarantine?
A: The biggest positive that has come from my quarantine is spending time with my family. All of my siblings and their significant others have come home, so it's a full house of nine people and four dogs, but it's definitely entertaining!
Â
Q: What is your preferred work out location during quarantine?
A: My garage or outside.
Â
Q: Abs or cardio?
A: Both!
Â
Q: How is your recovery from last year's injury going? Are you close to doing gymnastics again?
A: I just started running again about a week ago and now I'm slowly getting back into plyos. I am cleared to do some of my skills on bars, but obviously haven't been able to try any due to the quarantine. As soon as we get back into the gym, I should be able to add in a couple basics on some events.
Â
Q: What TV series have you enjoyed the most during the quarantine?
A: Documentaries on Netflix.
Â
Q: What have you done during the quarantine that you didn't do during normal life?
A: I am almost constantly on Zoom calls. I am cooking more, walking/running outside more and I've been able to put more time into hobbies such as art and doing my nails.
Â
Q: Have you done anything to improve yourself during quarantine?
A: I have definitely become a more experienced cook during this quarantine, and I've also had more time to work on my mindfulness with the team through meditation and journaling.
Â
Q: What was your favorite moment from the 2020 gymnastics season?
A: My favorite moment of the 2020 season was watching Isis get a 10 from one judge on the floor and Lacy getting a 10 from one judge on beam. My personal favorite moment was being able to compete all-around at our Orange & Black Exhibition.
Â
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: Â want to be a biomedical engineer, working in the design of medical devices.
Â
Q: Is there a skill you're looking forward to learning during the offseason?
A: There's not a specific skill, but I am looking forward to getting back into gymnastics in general, and being with my team again.
Â
Q: How is remote college working out? What has been your biggest school challenge?
A: Remote college comes with its own unique challenges, but my professors have been fairly understanding and accommodating during these unprecedented times. The biggest challenge for me is having to stare at a computer screen for the majority of the day. I mess walking around campus from class to class, seeing my friends' and classmates' faces and interacting with people that are physically in front of me in real time.
Â
Q: What do you look forward to the most about getting back to Corvallis (or other people getting back to Corvallis?
A: I look forward to being with my team again, hanging out with my roommates, and getting back to work in the gym!
