Lowery, Dagen Score Big, Lead Beavers to Win Over Stanford

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 25th-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team posted its highest score of the 2020 season to defeat Stanford, 196.825-194.575 early Sunday afternoon. The Beavers picked up where they left off with last week's win at Arizona, posting 49-point rotations on the vault (49.050), balance beam (49.375) and floor exercise (49.475) all of which were season-high marks.
Oregon State gymnasts secured three event titles including Lacy Dagen and Isis Lowery notching career-high scores of 9.975 on the balance beam and floor exercise respectively. In addition, Madi Dagen nailed her Yurchenko with 1½ twists to score a career-high 9.90 on the vault.
"I feel like things have been building. We've worked hard since the fall but we've dealt with some adversity and gotten off to a little bit of a rough start," acting head coach Michael Chaplin said. "Now we've started to settle in are starting see this team coming together recently. The team knows that today better than last week, and last week was better than the week before. But they also know that there is still a lot left to show."
OSU took a slight lead in the opening stanza reaching the 49-point mark on the vault for the first time this season. The Beavers' sister duo of Madi and Lacy Dagen led the squad with scores of 9.90 and 9.850 and Kaitlyn Yanish added a score of 9.80 to give OSU the early lead at 49.050-49.000.
The Beavers continued their solid start on the uneven bars. Alyssa Minyard led the way with a score of 9.850 and Halli Briscoe added a 9.825. Kayla Bird registered her second score of 9.80 in a row and Colette Yamaoka tallied a season-best 9.775.
Still clinging to their half-tenth lead, the Beavers moved to the beam. For the second straight meet, OSU caught fire during the third event. Destinee Davis began the rotation with a season-high 9.875, which Lowery matched. Freshman Jenna Domingo added a 9.825 routine to set up Lacy Dagen's incredible performance. Maela Lazaro completed the scoring on the beam with a 9.825 as the Beavers' completed an outstanding six-for-six beam rotation to score 49.375.
Oregon State held a 147.350-145.650 heading into the final rotation and the Beavers weren't slowing down. Lowery brought the crowd of 2,504 to their feet with her 9.975 performance and Yanish and Savanna Force each posted marks of 9.90 while Madi Dagen scored 9.875 and Kristina Peterson set a career-high with a 9.825.
Oregon State remains at home next week hosting Pac-12 foe Arizona State and SEC opponent LSU in a tri-meet and Saturday, Feb. 8, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
