Beavers Notch Strong Performances at Season Opener

SEATTLE, Wash. – Oregon State Track & Field opened its 2020 campaign in Seattle, Wash., for the UW Indoor Preview Saturday afternoon. The Beavers opened the season at the event for the fifth-straight year and displayed promising performances at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
Nine freshman competed for Oregon State out of 20 Beavers competing throughout the day in Seattle.
The meet was highlighted by several individual performances including redshirt junior Rebecca Ledsham winning her heat in the 1000-meters and placing seventh overall. The field events were another bright spot for the Beavers as Sydney Guthrie-Baker and Taylor Crockem finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put with the duo each adding to the all-time record book.
"We had some promising performances," head coach Louie Quintana said. "Sydney and Taylor were great and Rebecca was also in winning her section of the 1K."
Guthrie-Baker finished with a mark of 46-0.0 while Crockem notched a personal best with her mark of 45-8.50 which keeps her in sole possession of fifth place on the all-time shot-put list. The senior also earned a mark of 15.04-meters in the weight throw to finish in 22nd place.
Senior thrower Lindsay McShane returned to the throwing rotation and nabbed an 11th place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.01m (52-6.50). McShane set the school record in the event last season and will continue to be a staple in the lineup entering her senior campaign.
In the high jump, returning All-American Ann Wingeleth picked up where she left off last season and led the Beavers with a fifth-place finish of 1.65 meters. Wingeleth currently sits in sixth place in the all-time time record books in the high jump. Freshmen Taylor Ozimek and Emma Nelson followed in 13th and 17th as they made their debut in the orange and black.
In the 3,000-meter race, freshman Meagen Lowe impressed with a 28th place finish (9:41.67) to lead the Beavers with senior Alyssa Foote finishing right behind in 29th. The duo's individual performances moves them into ninth and tenth place on the all-time 3K list.
Gabby Peterson and Greta Van Calcar finished back-to-back also, crossing the finish line in 38th and 39th.
Claire Corbitt competed in the 60-meter hurdles (9.34) and long jump (4.96). Freshman Maddie McHone shined in her debut with Oregon State as she finished in 21st in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.29. She now sits at seventh in the all-time record books.
Tarisa Olinski (57.84) and Paige Sefried (58.83) each won their heat with a strong performances at 400 meters.
Lauren Miller earned a time of 8.04 at 60 meters and currently owns the No. 4 all-time mark with a 7.84.
"We have the talent and the passion," Quintana said. "Everyone's hearts are in the right place. We go back to Corvallis now to put in quality work."
Making Strides
The Beavers are back in action for two events next weekend when they compete at George Fox on Jan. 25 and at Portland Indoor on Jan. 26.

- Competing in the 1000-meters, Rebeca Ledsham finished first in her heat and seventh overall with a time of 2:53.92. Ledsham's finish moves her into sole possession of second place on the all-time list.
- Meagen Lowe and Alyssa Foote led the Beavers in the 3K race, leading a group that included Gabby Peterson and Greta Van Calcar.
- Lowe and Foote's individual times in the 3K moves them into ninth and tenth place in the all-time record books.
- The throws group showcased a strong outing led by Taylor Crockem and Sydney Guthrie-Baker in the shot put as the duo finished in 6th and 7th place, respectively.
- Crockem's PR of 45-8.50 in the shot put moved her into sole possession of fifth place in the all-time record book.
- Tarisa Olinski moved into fourth place on the all-time 400m list with a time of 57.84.
- Freshman Paige Sefried made her debut for the Beavers and finished 20th in the 400-meter race, placing in ninth on the all-time list.
- Freshman Maddie McHone shined in her debut with Oregon State as she finished in 21st in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.29. She now sits at seventh in the all-time record books.
- Jessica Molina moved into a tie for seventh on the all-time shot put list (13.08m, 42-11.00).
- Freshman Anneke Moersdorf made a strong debut by taking 12th in the triple jump and moving into sixth place on the all-time list. (11.24m, 36-10.5)
