Volleyball Fall in Three-Setter at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Maddie Goings led the Beavers with 15 kills, but the Oregon State volleyball team fell in three sets at Indiana in the Beavers' second match of the Hoosier Invite, Friday morning.
The Beavers, who swept its first two matches last weekend at the Oregon Classic, took the loss for the second straight day at the Hoosier Invite evening their season record at 2-2 while Indiana improved to 4-1. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-18.
The opening set was close through the midpoint with the Beavers holding the lead at 13-12. But the Hoosiers found a burst of life late in the set going on an 11-1 run to secure the opener 25-15.
The second set went much the same with eight ties in the early going. Knotted at 10-10, Indiana used a 4-1 run to gain a lead it wouldn't surrender. The Hoosiers went on to push a 7-2 run to finish the second taking the set 25-17 to go up two sets to none at the break.
Indiana took a slight lead early in the third set before the Beavers went on a 5-1 run that included four kills by Goings to tie the game at 12-12. However, the Hoosiers answered a bit later with a 5-0 run to push the lead to 18-13. They would go on to take the set, 25-18, and the match.
Game Notes: Junior Maddie Goings led the Beavers' offense for the second time in Bloomington with 15 kills … senior defensive specialist Makenna Browne registered a career-high seven digs against the Hoosiers … the match was played at 10 a.m. local, 7 a.m. PT.
Next Up: Oregon State is back on the court this afternoon to face Yale in the Beavers' final match of the Hoosier Invite. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. PT start.
