Beavers Announce 2019 Cross Country Schedule
August 26, 2019 | Women's Cross Country
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State cross country finalized its 2019 schedule, head coach Louie Quintana announced on Monday. The Beavers' 2019 schedule is highlighted by six meets inside the state of Oregon which gives the team multiple opportunities to display their talent close to home. Inside the Beaver State, OSU also serves as a host of the 2019 Pac-12 Championships in Monmouth, Oregon.
"When we set up our schedule, it gave us an opportunity to stay in state and compete against some out of region teams." Quintana said.
The Beavers will open their season on Saturday, Sept. 1 as they compete close to home in the Portland State Invite. Hosted by the Vikings of Portland State, the team competes in their first of six races in Oregon. The meet is to be held at Blue Lake Park for the Beavers' second annual tune up of the event as the women will compete in the 4,000-meter race. The team took the crown last year as redshirt junior Lexi Reed came in first place.
Oregon State will then travel to Monmouth, Oregon for the Sundowner Invite on Sept. 20. The inaugural event will take place in the evening at the Ash Creek Preserve and give the team a chance to run and preview the site of the conference meet in November. The event will feature a six-kilometer women's race.
"Previewing the course for the conference meet will be very beneficial for us, especially early in the season," Quintana said. "It's really important for our team to go there and it helps we're not missing school or adding extra stress. The big thing for us is just staying healthy."
The Beavs return after a week for the Dellinger Invitational on Sept. 28, hosted by the University of Oregon. Held at the Springfield Country Club, the team last competed in this event in the 2017-18 season. The following week will continue the in-state trend as the Beavers take a trip to Salem for the 45th annual Charles Bowles Invite. The team placed seventh in last year's event with Alyssa Foote emerging in the top-10. Hosted by Williamette, the women's race will be ran at 10:20 a.m. at Bush Park.
OSU then will return to Madison after a year to run in the one of the nation's premier college meets, the Nuttycombe Invitational, on Oct. 18. Hosted by the University of Wisconsin, the Beavs beat out two nationally ranked teams last year to finish in 16th place. Held at the scenic Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, the 6K women's race starts at 12:20 and will feature many competitive opportunities as the Beavs face out of region teams.
OSU will then bring a group of Beavers to Portland for the Lewis & Clark Invite on Oct. 19 to close out the regular season.
Post-season competition begins Nov. 1 with the Beavers hosting the Pac-12 Championships in Monmouth, Oregon. The event will be streamed on the Pac-12 network for the third consecutive year starting at 11:00 a.m. PT.The NCAA West Regionals begin Friday, Nov. 15 in Colfax, Washington at the Colfax Golf Course. The NCAA Championships will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana on Nov. 23 and the event will take place at the Lavern Gibson Golf Course.
The Beavers made the NCAA Championships last November where they were paced by Julianna Mount and finished 27th in the country. This season, the Beavs are coming in with a highly regarded recruiting class which ranked fifth on the Stride Report's 2019 recruiting class rankings for women. Key returners include sophomore Haley Wolf who finished 32nd at last year's West Regional Championships and junior Lexi Reed who finished as the third Beav for most of her races last season. Reed also set multiple PR's during the past winter and spring track seasons.
