August 14, 2019 | Men's Soccer
Season starts Aug. 30
CORVALLIS, Ore.  – The No. 22 Oregon State men's soccer team opened practice for the 2019 season Wednesday, preparing for its second season under head coach Terry Boss.
Â
Building on one of the most successful campaigns in program history, the squad felt good getting back on the field.
Â
"It feels great, there's a ton of excitement coming in," said junior Joe Hafferty. "It's the first time having everyone together, so it's about getting past the nerves and getting the new guys accustomed to training here. It was a great first practice, and we're looking forward to what's next."
Â
The Beavers bring back nine starters from last year's squad, including Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Sofiane Djeffal and All-Pac-12 honorees Djeffal, Gloire Amanda, Eric Diaz and Hafferty. With an experienced squad returning to Lorenz Field for the season opener on Aug. 30, Oregon State is excited to see what comes next.
Â
"I think everyone is excited to be back here," said senior Eric Diaz. "Even in the locker room, the whole group was buzzing. The energy was there right from the start today. Everybody is ready to do big things."
Â
Oregon State finishing 2018 with a record of 11-6-3, and made the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. The Beavers ended the Pac-12 season second in the conference with a mark of 6-3-1, and Boss was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year in his first campaign as the program's skipper.
Â
OSU ended last season ranked No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Beavers had three players earn All-Region honors last season, and five different Oregon State players earned Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week recognition at least once on the year.
