Ellie Slama Selected To All-Pac-12 First Team
April 17, 2019 | Women's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Ellie Slama was selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team by a vote of the conference coaches on Wednesday.
Slama is the first Oregon State women's golfer to receive all-conference honors since 2007 and the first ever named to the First Team.
Kathleen Takaishi was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team in 1998. Jessi Gebhardt (2007), Anjeanette Dabbs (1998 and 1999) and Takaishi (1999) all earned honorable mention recognition.
"It's hard to explain the kind of player Ellie is," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "She just gets it. To be ranked 11th in our conference and 37th in the nation shows how strong this conference is. Her consistent play all year earned her All-Conference. To then finish eighth in the Pac-12 Championship shows the caliber of a golfer Ellie is."
A sophomore from Salem, Ore., Slama set the Oregon State single-season record with seven top-10 finishes that was capped by a tie for eighth place at the Pac-12 Championship. The record was previously six by Takaishi in 1997-98.
Slama won the individual title at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas this past fall, which helped her become the first Oregon State women's golfer in program history to be named Pac-12 Golfer of the Month.
The individual title was the second of her career after winning the Ron Moore Invitational in Highlands Ranch, Colo., as a freshman last fall.
Slama set the Oregon State single-season scoring average record last year with a 72.79. Her scoring average this season is 71.75, which includes 17 sub-par rounds and a career-best 6-under 67 at the Pac-Preview in Kona, Hawai'i.
She was one of 72 of the best golfers in the world invited to the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur that was held in Augusta, Ga., earlier this month.
