Beavers Add Transfer Hitter for 2019
January 31, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Head coach Mark Barnard continues to add to the Oregon State volleyball program this time via the addition of transfer outside hitter Chloe Brown, who has officially signed her financial aid agreement. Barnard announced her addition Thursday.
Brown, who hails from Beaverton, Ore. and graduated from Southridge High, joins the Beavers after spending her freshman season at Miami.
"Chloe is a dynamic outside hitter with excellent passing skills who will be a valuable addition to our team," Barnard said. "Chloe has been observed for many years by our staff and now we have the opportunity to work with a player who all coaches tell us is one of the hardest workers they have coached and has a passion for the game that you see in so few athletes. I am looking forward to having Chloe on the team and I believe she is a player that can make an immediate impact with this program. She has the maturity of spending one year playing in college and I know that this will translate to our results on the court."
Brown earned a starting spot and played all six rotations as a freshman at Miami in 2018. She averaged 2.80 kills per set and 2.25 digs per set while adding 24 service aces during her rookie campaign. She registered a season-best 19 kills in her college debut against Florida Atlantic and was named to the all-tournament team at the Sunshine State Challenge on the season's opening weekend.
Brown, a team captain, led Southridge to its first ever 6A State Championship as a senior in 2017. She was named as The Oregonian's Player of the Year, first team all-state and the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year. A four-year letterwinner, she averaged 5.36 kills and 4.18 digs for the Skyhawks en route to earning three West Valley League first team nods and a pair of conference Player of the Year awards and was named as a high school All-American in 2017.
Playing club for Athena Volleyball Academy, Brown capped her senior season by helping her team to a first place finish in the CEVA Region. Brown also earned a silver medal at the USA HP Championship in 2015 and was named honorable mention on Prepvolleyball's Frosh 59 and Soph 79.
