CORVALLIS, Ore. – Welcome back to the fourth installment of our series introducing the newcomers to the 2018 cross country team. This week we're featuring Sydney Boland. She is a freshman hailing from Edmonds, Wash.
Why did you choose Oregon State/What are you looking forward to most about running at Oregon State?
I chose Oregon State for the forestry and horticulture programs, and I am most excited to become closer with my teammates and work hard to run faster.
What do you enjoy most about running?
What I enjoy most about running is meeting new people through the sport and the feeling of satisfaction after finishing a race.
How do you like to spend your time away from running?
I spend my time away from running with my family; we cook together, watch sibling's sporting events and hangout.
What was your favorite experience from this summer?
My favorite thing I did this summer was showing my friends Sweden around Seattle.
Who is your role model?
My role models are my parents; they always put my siblings and I before themselves.
Do you have any pre-race superstitions?
I'm not sure that this is a pre-race superstition or just out of nerves, but I am constantly pulling the tabs of my spikes up at the starting line.
What are you planning to study at Oregon State?
I am planning on majoring in either Forestry or Horticulture.
What other sports do you play, or grew up playing?
Besides running, I grew up playing soccer.
Do you have any nicknames?
The only nickname that I have is Syd.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
The artists most likely to be playing on my phone are John Mayer and Jack Johnson.
The Beavers cross country team remains idle for the coming weeks as they train in preparation for the Nuttycombe Invitational on Sept. 28.
