
Paul Thorpe Appointed as Cheer Coach

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Paul Thorpe has been appointed as Oregon State's new cheer coach, OSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Barnes announced Thursday.

Thorpe's previous experience includes working as a head instructor for the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) in Garland, Texas since 2010. In that position, he has traveled to numerous universities across the West to organize and conduct summer cheerleading, dance and mascot camps. In his role with the NCA he has developed original material for company distribution and has contributed to the Walt Disney Christmas Day Parade in 2011 and 2013.

He has also worked as a spotter and coach for RC Competes, which is an international event production company that hosts cheer and dance competitions across the U.S. and abroad since 2015. In addition, he's been a cheer safety instructor, educating and certifying cheer teams and coaches in the state of Utah since 2015. Thorpe also worked as an assistant coach at Weber State during the 2016-17 season.

He is a member and captain of the Utah Jazz NBA Stunt Team and choreographs the team's game day routines.

Thorpe, who cheered as a student at Weber State, graduated with a bachelor's degree in organizational communication and professional and technical writing.
