Beavers Place Two on Podium at NCAA Championships
March 17, 2018 | Wrestling
CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the first time since 2013 the Oregon State University wrestling team placed multiple wrestlers on the podium at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. On the final day of action Amarveer Dhesi secured the highest placing by a Beaver since 1998, while Ronnie Bresser earned his first ever podium finish.
125-pounder Bresser faced Zeke Moisey (West Virginia) in the 7th place bout, but Moisey medically forfeited handing the junior the win. He finishes his championship run with a 4-2 record and the first All-American honor of his collegiate career.
Bresser finished the season with a 25-6 record. He has eclipsed at least 20 wins in every year at Oregon State.
Wrestling in the consolation semifinals to begin the day, Dhesi had a rematch with Mike Hughes (Hofstra) for the right to wrestle for third place. Dhesi earned a first period takedown building a lead he wouldn't relinquish.
After a 3-1 decision over Hughes, Dhesi faced Jacob Kasper from Duke who entered the match 39-3. The Surrey, B.C. native used his second fall of the tournament to solidify his third place finish. He is now a two-time All-American at the NCAAs with a third (2018) and fifth (2016) place finish. Â
The Beavers finished with 26 points, their highest since 2013, and currently sit in 21st place with the finals still to occur later this evening.
