Get to Know Amanda Hoejberg
December 04, 2018 | Women's Swimming
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Welcome to the seventh installment of our series introducing the newcomers to the 2018-19 swim team. This week we're featuring Amanda Hoejberg. She is a freshman hailing from Virum, Denmark.
What are you looking forward to most about swimming at Oregon State?
The three things I am looking forward to the most are competing against other PAC-12 schools, practicing with my teammates, and having a blast.
How do you spend your time outside of the pool?
I really like school and learning so I spend a decent amount of time doing that. Besides that, I as a real person enjoy the human hobbies of breathing air and walking with my legs. In general, I just like to do whatever the worlds offers me and I am always down for crazy and spontaneous ideas when I hang out with my friends.
What is your first memory of being in the pool?
Both my parents played underwater rugby, so I remember how they took me with them to practice, gave me wings and a belt, and then put me in the kids pool to play while they were practicing. I was sort of like the team mascot and was with them at every game and almost every practice, just splashing around in the shallow end.
Who is your role model?
I once saw a guy walking while eating spaghetti, he was wearing socks, flip flops, shorts, a poncho and a cap that said, "Don't worry be happy." He seemed to have life figured out. A more serious one would be my grandpa because he was the kind of person that would lend his bed to someone in need even if it meant he would not have one.
Do you have any pre-meet superstitions?
Sometimes if I am very nervous, I eat ice cream the day before the meet to have "ice" in my stomach so I can calm down and not stress about it.
What other sports did you play growing up?
I tried a lot of land sports but none of them worked out in the slightest, which is annoying when you are very competitive.
What are you planning on studying?
Biochemistry and molecular biology so I can become a scientist and help save the world.
What is one hidden talent you have?
I am actually a Danish spy but do not tell anyone, it would compromise my mission. I can also guess the plot to every "Scooby Doo" episode before the big reveal happens.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
My biggest go to will always be Eminem. If it is not Eminem, my music taste is like a toss with a 20 sided dice – very random.
What is your favorite TV show?
"Nine-Nine!" (Fans will get it)
What actress would play you in a movie?
Celilie Thomsen, a Danish James Bond girl.
Oregon State will be back in action at San Diego State University on December 31.
