Beavers Travel to Mike Clock Open on Sunday
November 08, 2018 | Wrestling
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team opens its competitive season this weekend at the Mike Clock Open, hosted by Pacific University, in Forest Grove on Sunday.
This is the seventh year in a row for the Beavers at the Mike Clock open, who have found early season success here in the past. Last season, Oregon State walked away with two champions in Ronnie Bresser and Grant Willits. Oregon State racked up 19 falls at last year's tournament.
This season, 18 other programs are slated to be in attendance including Clackamas Community College, Simon Fraser, Oregon, Washington, and Washington State.
The Beavers are using this as a tune up weekend traveling the entire roster to maximize live reps before the team travels to the East Coast next weekend for the Navy Classic.
All-American 125-pounder Bresser is primed for his first live action this weekend after a 7th place finish at the NCAA Championships in March. Bresser is currently ranked No. 3 at 125 pounds by multiple publications; InterMat, TheOpenMat, FloWrestling, and TrackWrestling.
Two other 2018 NCAA qualifiers for Oregon State will also be in Forest Grove on Sunday, 157-pounder Hunter Willits and 197-pounder Corey Griego. Willits qualified for the NCAA Championships as a true freshman last season, while Griego qualified for the third straight year.
H. Willits is ranked as high as No. 17 by TheOpenMat, while Griego sits as high as No. 9 in the InterMat rankings.
There will be plenty of new faces on the mat for Oregon State on Sunday as this year's roster features 15 new faces.
Up Next

Teams scheduled to be in attendance include: Air Force, American, Bucknell, Campbell, Cleveland State, Edinboro, George Mason, Indiana, Kent State, Michigan State, Navy, Ohio, Old Dominion.
