Beavers Travel to Wisconsin for NCAA Cross Country Championships
November 14, 2018 | Women's Cross Country
CORVALLIS – This Saturday the Oregon State cross country team will do what no other has done before in the school's history; The Beavers travel to Madison, Wis. to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Hosted by the University of Wisconsin, the championship event is slated to be held at the Zimmer Cross Country Course, a course the Beavers have run already this season. The women's 6,000-meter race begins first at 8:45 a.m. PT, with the men's 10,000-meter race to follow. You can tune into the action via the live stream or live results.
The Beavers are coming off a record-setting performance at the NCAA West Regional Championships last week in Sacramento. OSU managed its highest finish and lowest point total in school history placing 6th with 196 team points. The Beavers did the same thing at the Pac-12 Championships recording their lowest finish and point total in the history of the event.
OSU comes out of the deepest region in all of the country. Six teams were selected from the West Region, with five Pac-12 schools being selected to the championships in Wisconsin; Oregon State, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Stanford.
Oregon State is travelling eight student athletes, seven competitors and an alternate. The Beavers are taking their same contingent from the regional meet last week: Juliana Mount, Haley Wolf, Mari Friedman, Lexi Reed, Audrey Lookner, Grace Fetherstonhaugh, Brigette Takeuchi and alternate Alyssa Foote.
Senior Juliana Mount has been the Beavers' frontrunner all season long. The San Jose, Calif. native is coming off her second consecutive NCAA All-Region designation after placing 12th at the regional meet. Mount earned the first Pac-12 All-Conference designation for an Oregon State runner at the conference championship meet.
True freshman Haley Wolf nearly earned an All-Region finish in her first attempt at the meet placing 32nd. Wolf has been OSU's No. 2 runner in nearly every meet in her inaugural season.
Redshirt sophomore Lexi Reed and sophomore Audrey Lookner look to keep their consistency as they head into the championship event. The pair have been reliable all season and have played a major role in helping the newcomers navigate the races. Reed won the first event of the season for Oregon State at the Viking Rust Buster.
