
Get to Know Rachel Pride

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Welcome to the fourth installment of our series introducing the newcomers to the 2018-19 swim team. This week we're featuring Rachel Pride. She is a freshman hailing from Santa Rosa, Calif. specializing in the breaststroke.
What are you looking forward to most about swimming at Oregon State?
I am most looking forward to being able to train adn race with such a focused, competitive and fun group of people. I am also excited to get to know everyone on the team!
How do you spend your time outside of the pool?
I spend a lot of my time outside of the pool studying and sleeping, but I love to hang out with teammates and friends also.
What is your first memory of being in the pool?
My first memory of being in the pool is taking swim lessons when I was five or six. I remember telling my mom how much I loved breaststroke they first day they taught it to me.
Who is your role model?
My biggest role models are my parents because they are the first people I go to when I am not sure what to do in a situation.
Do you have any pre-meet superstitions?
I don't have any specific meet superstitions, but I do have a playlist that I like to listen to at meets to help me get ready to swim. I also have some specific snacks that I like to always have with me at swim meets to eat between races.
What other sports did you play growing up?
I played soccer growing up for about six years before I started swimming. I also ran cross country in middle school and my freshman year of high school.
What are you planning on studying?
I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering. I chose this major because I can go in a lot of different directions with it. I have also always enjoyed math and physics classes.
What is one hidden talent you have?
One hidden talent that I have is that I play the viola and have played a lot of other instruments in the past.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
I like a lot of kinds of music, so it's hard to pick a specific song or band that is my favorite!
What is your favorite TV show?
My favorite T.V. show is 'Gilmore Girls,' but I also love 'Friends.'
What actress would play you in a movie?
I'm not really sure who would play me in a movie, but I would probably want someone like Amy Poehler, just to make it as funny as possible.
Oregon State will be back in action to host Seattle University and Southwestern Oregon Community College on Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.
