Beavers Open Season Wednesday

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team is set to open the 2018-19 season on Wednesday night inside Gill Coliseum for the annual Orange & Black scrimmage.
Starting at 7 p.m., the event will feature 17 bouts pitting the Oregon State "Black" squad against the Oregon State "Orange" team. 13 newcomers will make their OSU debut Wednesday evening.
The Beavers return nine student athletes that started in a dual last season and helped OSU to a second place finish at the Pac-12 Championships, including two individual Pac-12 Champions and three NCAA competitors.
125-pounder Ronnie Bresser makes his return to the mat following a successful 2017-18 campaign that culminated with a NCAA All-American designation after a seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland. The senior managed a 25-6 record last season and captured his second Pac-12 Championship.
Corey Griego captured his second Pac-12 title at 197 pounds last season and made his third appearance at the NCAA Championships. Griego ended the season 21-7 overall with a 10-2 record in dual meets.
Now sophomore 157-pounder Hunter Willits is looking get back to the NCAAs after becoming just the second true freshman under the direction of head coach Jim Zalesky to make the championship tournament at Oregon State.
Kegan Calkins, Bob Coleman, Josh Reyes, Myles Terry, Devan Turner and Rodney Williams all return for Oregon State and started in at least one dual meet last season.
The Beavers open their regular season on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Mike Clock open, before heading across the country to compete in the Navy Classic for the second consecutive year on Nov. 17.
OSU opens the dual meet season at home on Sunday, Dec. 9 against Pac-12 opponent CSU Bakersfield. The home schedule for the Beavers feature duals with South Dakota State, Michigan, Arizona State, Clackamas CC, Iowa State and Stanford.
