Oregon State Hosts 25 Alumni for Homecoming Meet

Former Beavers return to Langton for Meet and Luncheon
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State swim hosted 25 Alumni and their families for their Alumni Meet and Luncheon as a part of Homecoming Weekend.
Returning alumni ranged from 2017 graduates to former coach of the Beavers Laura Worden (1984-1989).
"It is really good to see such a large number of student athletes that have returned, especially the recent grads," said former Beaver head coach Laura Worden. "I think (Beaver Head Coach Jennifer Buffin) is doing a great job building this program and building this event. To be back in Langton Hall where we practiced every morning makes it all feel like one big family reunion."
The relay portions of the meet had teams made of both current student athletes and alumni, and both groups competed in individual events throughout the meet.
"All day it was so much fun," said Junior Felicia Anderson. "It is so cool seeing our history coming full circle here. It is always fun to see everybody continue to race, I know it's always really fun for the alumni as their only meet of the year getting to come back and compete."
Buffin's main goal for the meet and subsequent was to create an atmosphere where current student athletes and alumni could interact and talk about their shared experiences.
"I think there is something really important about the relationship between current student athletes and Alumni," Buffin said. "This program has been around for a long time and the current swimmers are provided opportunities because of the men and women that came before them."
"I told the team this morning after our practice that it was important for them to introduce themselves to everyone that was here because they never know what kind of common connection they might have with them," Buffin said. "Another really important part of this is networking. Finding out what the alumni are doing now and strike up a relationship with someone that may be helpful for them in their career path."
The Beavers are back in action next weekend against the Arizona Wildcats. The meet is set for 10 a.m. at Osborn Aquatic Center.
