Beavers to Host Alumni Meet

Oregon State is set to host their annual Alumni Meet as part of Homecoming Weekend
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Beavers are set to host their annual Alumni meet at Langton Hall as a part of the Oregon State Homecoming Week festivities. The meet will take place on Saturday, October 20th starting at 10 a.m. with a post meet lunch outside Langton Hall.
"The meet is all about coming and having fun. It's not a competition of a college level event, though there are certainly some friendly competitive aspects to it," Beaver head coach Jennifer Buffin said. "Fortunately, swimming can be a lifelong sport, so we want to give everyone who wants to the chance to get back in the water on campus, but you don't have to swim. We would be happy to just see the alumni on the pool deck enjoying the meet. We just want Alumni to come and take part in the event and reconnect with the program however they feel most comfortable."
The meet takes place before the Homecoming football game later that day and will kick off many Homecoming events led by Varsity OSU.
"With the timing of the meet we're set up pretty perfectly to host a lunch afterwords," said Buffin. "We want to have a place where alumni can either swim the meet or just show up to support, and then be able to stay in the same area to connect with current student athletes and each other. With it being earlier in the day, it still gives all the alumni the chance to connect with the larger alumni community and participate in the Walk of Honor as well."
Buffin wants this meet to act as a way for the Alumni to not only reconnect with each other but also make connections with current student athletes as well.
"I think it's important for the current team to interact with all of the alumni that came before them. It's so valuable to the strength of a program when you have a strong alumni network," continued Buffin. "There are such strong ties to this university and very similar stories that I hear from all of the alumni. Each Alumni I get the opportunity to engage with, their story about their time at Oregon State and the community all match up, and it still matches up to a lot of the experiences today."
Alumni are encouraged to bring their families to gather and enjoy the day in or out of the water by sending an RSVP to Jennifer.Buffin@oregonstate.edu. The luncheon scheduled for after the meet wraps up will cost $25 per person with kids eating free. There is also the option of donating, a tax deductible, $100 to the Lane Four Club to receive lunch for free.
