Beavers Attain Highest Regional Ranking in School History
October 01, 2018 | Women's Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – Following an impressive showing at the historically competitive Nuttycombe Invitational the Oregon State cross country team has attained its highest ever regional ranking as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday morning.
"Being ranked sixth in the competitive West Region is a nice testament to the work this women's group has and is continuing to put in," said head coach Louie Quintana. "This is the highest Oregon State has ever been ranked in the West Region in program history, but we have a lot of goals that we want to accomplish the rest of the season and are excited to continue the process."
The Beavers entered last week at No. 10 in the West Region, but find themselves up four spots to No. 6 in the fourth week of the regional poll. This is the highest ranking the Oregon State cross country program has ever received. OSU's previous highest ranking came during a three week period during the 2013 season where they sat at No. 7.
The West Region currently features three teams inside the national top five, as well as seven Pacific-12 Conference teams; Oregon (No. 2), Stanford (No. 3), Washington (No. 4), Oregon State (No. 5), UCLA (No. 6), California (No. 10) and Washington State (No. 14).
Oregon State finished in 16th out of 33 teams at the 2018 Nuttycombe Invitational, beating out two nationally ranked teams in No. 25 Providence and No. 27 Georgetown.
The USTFCCCA National Coaches poll releases on Tuesday. The Beavers have never been ranked in the national poll, however they did receive votes in 2008.
