Beavers Finish In A Tie For Second Place

EL MACERO, Calif. – The Oregon State men's golf team finished in a tie for second place at the El Macero Classic on Friday.
The Beavers concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 31-over 301-298-296--895 at the par-72, 6,966-yard El Macero Country Club.
Seattle U. won the 14-team field by a stoke with a 30-over 894, while Fresno State tied Oregon State for second with a 31-over 895. UC Davis finished fourth with a 35-over 899 and Grand Canyon rounded out the top five with a 39-over 903.
Senior Kevin Murphy finished in fourth place with a 3-over 77-73-69--219 for his eight career top-10 finish. He finished a career-best second at the El Macero Classic last year.
Freshman Shawn Lu recorded a top-10 finish for the first time in his career after carding an 8-over 78-75-71--224 for a tie for 10th place. His previous best finish was a tie for 22nd at The Jackrabbit this past fall.
Junior Jonas Liebich finished in a tie for 15th place with a 9-over 77-71-77--225, sophomore Trevor Yu shot an 18-over 70-81-83--234 for a tie for 47th and freshman Kyosuke Hara was a stroke back with a 19-over 77-79-79--235 to finish in a tie for 50th.
Ben Corfee of UC Davis was the lone golfer in the field to finish in red figures, which earned him medalist honors with a 1-under 71-74-70--215.
The Beavers will next compete at the Pac-12 Championship, which will be held Friday, April. 28 to Sunday, April 30 in Boulder, Colo.
