Alshujery and Jacobsen Honored as Student-Athletes of the Month
February 20, 2017 | Women's Gymnastics, Wrestling
CORVALLIS -- Oregon State University Athletics is proud to announce Ali Alshujery and Mary Jacobsen have been named February Student-Athletes of the Month.
  Â
Alshujery is a senior wrestler from Portland who is majoring in kinesiology. He has numerous OSU Honor Roll inclusions and is on track to attend graduate school with the goal of becoming a physician. Â Alshujery is redshirting this season due to injury.
"It's an honor to be selected for this academic merit," Alshujery said. "I came to OSU with two goals; first to get an education and second to compete in wrestling. I'm the first person in my family to attend college which motivates me to set an example for my younger siblings and to make my family proud."
Jacobsen is a sophomore gymnast from Puyallup, Wash. The computer science major owns three event titles in her young all-around career in which she has "hit" 45 routines. Â The two-time Honor Roll member is taking an academic course load of a senior and aspires to add a minor in music.
"I do the best I can every day with the time I have and try to only focus on what I'm doing at the moment," Jacobsen said of her academic prowess. "Enjoying what I do in and out of the gym makes it possible for me to succeed."
Two student-athletes are selected each month, coordinated by the Academics for Student-Athletes staff.Â
