"To steal a quote from Coach Rueck, adversity creates opportunity, and that is what we have this week as a team and individually," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "As a team, the field this week is full of NCAA postseason teams. Individually, everyone has the opportunity to step up and fill the shoes of Conner (Kumpula).
Â
"We needed to make the decision to leave Conner at home to get some extra rest and see if he can play the rest of the season. It will be weird to be without him, but I'm confident our guys have worked hard since Hawai'i and are ready to play their best."
Â
LAST TIME OUT: Oregon State shot an 8-over 292-284-296--872 at the par-72, 7,074-yard Waikoloa Kings' Course to finish in a tie for 14th place at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai'i.
Â
The 21-team field featured 11 teams ranked among the top 40 in the latest golfstat.com rankings. No. 18 Texas Tech pulled away to win the team title with a 44-under 820, while No. 7 USC finished second with a 36-under 828 at the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
Â
Jonas Liebich fired a 2-under in the final round to jump 18 spots up the leaderboard and finish in a team-best tie for 50th with an even-par 75-71-70--216.
Â
Kevin Murphy finished a stroke back of Liebich with a 1-over 72-71-74--217 to finish in a tie for 56th place. Calum Hill and Conner Kumpula both finished in a tie for 70th place with a 4-over 220. Hill had scores of 73-73-74 and Kumpula went 73-69-78.
Â
Freshman Shawn Lu didn't play the final round due to an injury after opening the tournament 74-75.
