THE MEET
No. 12 Oregon State (6-1, 2-1 Pac-12) is back on the road this week making the first of back-to-back trips to the Bay Area. The Beavers will face California (8-2, 2-2) in Berkeley at Haas Pavilion at 4:30 p.m. The meet will air live on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Bay Area with Jim Watson on the call with Amanda Borden providing analysis.

QUICKLY
The Beavers put another notch in their belt knocking off previously unbeaten Utah in walk-off fashion last Saturday 196.550-196.525. Senior All-American Kaytianna McMillan scored 9.925 in the meet's final routine to secure the victory for the Beavers ... Despite the win over then-No. 4 Utah, Oregon State slipped to No. 12 in this week's rankings ... If you were to throw out the score from the Beavs' clunker at Seattle Pacific in Week 2, they would be ranked 8th ... In the spirit of last week's DAM Cancer meet, OSU gymnasts Halli Briscoe, Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, Jaime Law and McKenna Singley, along with OSU women's basketball star, Sydney Wiese, participated in Haircuts for Cancer. Colussi-Pelaez and Law were scheduled for the event, while Briscoe and Singley jumped in spur of the moment ... Oregon State is ranked in the top 20 on all four events: vault is tied for 12th (49.067 average); uneven bars is 17th (48.904); balance beam is tied for 15th (48.963); and floor exercise is ranked 11th (49.121) ... Tanya Chaplin is in her 20th season as the Beavers' head coach and won the 300th regular season win of her career earlier this month at Seattle Pacific ... Three freshmen, Destinee Davis, Sabrina Gill and Isis Lowery, have made their collegiate debuts in 2017 ... Fellow freshman, Halli Briscoe has also performed in exhibition ... Erika Aufiero, who missed the entire 2016 campaign, and Dani Dessaints, who suffered a season-ending injury prior to the season's second meet, made their return to competition for the season-opener.
VS. CALIFORNIA
Oregon State meets California for the 95th time Saturday afternoon. The Beavers hold a 89-5 lead in the all-time series. However, the Bears have been on the rise of late and earned a victory over OSU at the Pac-12 Championships in 2014. Since then, Oregon State has defeated CAL in each of the last four meetings.
LAST WEEK VS. UTAH
The Beavers upset fourth-ranked Utah by the narrowest of margins last Saturday, 196.550-196.525. OSU never trailed in the meet after taking an opening rotation lead 49.075-48.975 and held strong the rest of the afternoon. Kaytianna McMillan stepped onto the floor exercise for the meet's final routine needing a 9.925 to secure the win for the Beavers. She nailed her routine and earned the exact score needed. Despite McMillan's flash, it was a team effort as Isis Lowery and Madeline Gardiner each scored 9.875s to set up McMillan's final routine. Oregon State 'hit' all 24 routines for the third time in four meets and McMillan won or tied four events (bars, beam, floor and all-around). Erika Aufiero scored 9.85 on the bars and Dani Dessaints added a 9.875 on the beam to tie for the event titles. Saturday's win over the Utes marked the first time for the Beavers since the 2013 Pac-12 Championships, although the teams tied for second at last year's conference meet as well.
TEAM NOTES
• The Beavers have counted two falls in 2017, one on bars and one on beam ... both came in a win at Seattle Pacific ... OSU counted just one missed routine in 2016.
• Oregon State has 'hit' 137 out of 144 (95.1%) routines in 2017 ... in comparison, the Beavers 'hit' 276 out of 290 (95.2%) routines last year.
• The Beavers went 24-for-24 for the first time this season in the third meet of the season, against Northern Illinois & Seattle Pacific, and accomplished the feat the very next week against UCLA, for a second time. In 2016, it took until the season's seventh meet to 'hit' all 24 routines.
• Oregon State has 'hit' 24-for-24 in three of it's last four meets ... the one miss was the opening routine (uneven bars) at Arizona.
• Through six meets, OSU's senior-laden squad is doing some heavy lifting performing more than half of the team's routines - 78 of 144 (52.2%). The rest of the squad is contributing as follows: juniors 13 of 144 (9.0%); sophomores 29 of 144 (20.1%); freshmen 24 of 144 (16.7%).
• Seven out of OSU's 10 opponents on the 2017 schedule were ranked in the preseason Top 36; No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Utah, No. 8 Auburn, No. 10 California, No. 11 Stanford, No. 18 Arizona and No. 20 Washington.
• Eighteen of Oregon State's 20 gymnasts earned 3.0 or higher GPA's during fall term.
SEEKING PERFECTION
OSU has eight gymnasts that have 'hit' all of their routines in 2017 include: Madeline Gardiner (20-20), Mary Jacobsen (17-17), Erika Aufiero (10-10), Taylor Ricci (10-10), Megan Jimenez (8-8), Silvia Colussi-Pelaez (6-6), Destinee Davis (1-1) and Shireen Khamedoost (1-1).
WHICH WAY DO WE GO?
The Beavers, like every other team in the country, are seeking to qualify to the NCAA Championships and the Super Six. But to reach that goal teams must get through NCAA Regionals. In 2017, regionals will be held at Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, Washington and West Virginia. The top two finishers at each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.
CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS
In the preseason coaches poll, the Pac-12 Conference had seven of its eight teams ranked in the Top 36, which is the number of teams that qualify to NCAA Regionals. Currently, UCLA is ranked No. 4, followed by No. 5 Utah, No. 12 Oregon State, No. 14 Washington, No. 18 California, No. 25 Arizona and Stanford is No. 36.
THREE MORE FOR 2018
In November, two gymnasts signed the National Letters of Intent to join the Oregon State gymnastics program for the 2017-18 academic year. Savanna Force (Reno, Nev.) and Kaitlyn Yanish (Chandler, Ariz.) are scheduled to enroll at Oregon State this coming summer. In addition, Alexis Gonzales (Newport Beach, Calif.) signed an intent to enroll and will also join the OSU gymnastics program in July.
