Beavers Head East for 2017 Finale
December 27, 2017 | Wrestling
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team is set to compete at the 55th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern University at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates on Friday and Saturday.
All four sessions will be broadcast on FloWrestling and BTN Plus. Each mat is a different stream on BTN2Go, while Flo will be here. The Big Ten Network will not be broadcasting the final sessions as they have in years past. Additionally, live scoring/stats/brackets will be on TrackWrestling.
One of the premier wrestling events of the holiday season, the Midlands plays host to some of the top teams in the country. The Beavers placed 21st with 30.5 points in 2016; redshirt senior Cody Crawford placed seventh at heavyweight.
The Midlands marks the beginning of a long road trip that concludes with duals against No. 15-ranked South Dakota State (Jan. 5) and Iowa State (Jan. 7).
Oregon State was not ranked in the Top 25 in the most recent USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association's poll, which was released on Dec. 20.
Two Beavers have earned Top-20 recognition in their respective weight classes by InterMat. Redshirt junior 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser is ranked No. 10 and holds a 7-2 overall record on the season, including a fourth place finish at the 2017 Reno Tournament of Champions two weeks ago. Redshirt junior 197-pounder Corey Griego finds himself ranked at No. 11 in the most recent rankings release. Griego was the 2017 Navy Classic champion and the third place finisher at the 2017 RTOC and holds an 11-2 record this season.
Beavers projected to travel to the Midwest: Ronnie Bresser (125, 7-2), Devan Turner (133, 6-6), Kegan Calkins (133, 5-5), Grant Willits (141, 6-2), Jack Hathaway (141, 11-6), Kurt Mode (149, 6-7), Conner Noonan (149, 9-5), Hunter Willits (157, 9-7), Billy Bigelow (165, 3-6), Myles Terry (174, 3-7), Colt Doyle (174, 2-2), Seth McLeod (184, 9-4), Corey Griego (197, 11-2), Amarveer Dhesi (HWT, 5-0), and Cody Crawford (HWT, 11-4).
