Tibbits Fires Pair of 68’s To Lead Beavers
October 09, 2017 | Men's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. – Spencer Tibbits continued his strong play to lead the Oregon State men's golf team on the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Monday.
Tibbits, a freshman from Vancouver, Wash., fired a pair of 3-under 68's at the par-71, 6,734-yard Meadow Club to put him in a tie for ninth place in the 88-player field with a 6-under 136.
He finished in a tie for ninth place in his first collegiate tournament, the Mark Simpson Invitational, two weeks ago with a 6-under 68-72-70--210 and has been in red figures in four of his first five rounds at Oregon State.
As a team, the Beavers are tied for ninth place in the 16-team field with a 3-under 280-285--565.
There will be tee times beginning at 7:40 a.m. in the final round on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
"We did some good things today," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "I saw some good things from everybody. On a course like this we can't make too many mistakes. We had too many three putts. We need to clean those up.
"We need to keep things in perspective of what will be a long year. Tomorrow will be another day and they all mean something when we are working hard to get that postseason bid at the end of the year."
Junior Trevor Yu fired a career-best 4-under 68 in the morning and is tied for 37th place with an even-par 142, while sophomore Shawn Lu shot a career-best 3-under 69 in the afternoon and is tied for 46th with a 2-over 144.
Senior Jonas Liebich is tied for 57th place with a 4-over 72-74--146 and sophomore Kyosuke Hara is tied for 64th with a 6-over 72-76--148.
Host California has the team lead with a 29-under 539 and the Golden Bears' K.K. Limbhasut holds a one-stroke individual lead with a 13-under 129.
