Oregon State Suffers Loss at UCLA
October 26, 2017 | Men's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The Oregon State University men's soccer program surrendered three first-half goals to UCLA on Thursday at Drake Stadium en route to a 5-0 loss to start the final regular-season road trip of 2017.
"I thought we were flat the first 20 minutes," said head coach Steve Simmons. "Ultimately, it had us playing catch up. That's a tough task on the road.
"We'll regroup and get ready for Sunday."
The Beavers (5-11-0, 2-6-0 Pac-12) fired off 10 shots in the decision, but the Bruins (7-6-1, 4-2-0 Pac-12) needed only one save from keeper Kevin Silva to keep OSU off the board.
UCLA found the back of the net early in the first half as Milan Iloski took a feed from Joab Santoyo and Anderson Asiedu and fired off a long-range shot in the eighth minute to put the Beavers in a 1-0 deficit.
Santiago Herrera doubled the hosts' lead in the 20th minute after taking a finisher from Alex Knox in the box and heading home a 2-0 UCLA advantage. Knox added to his total in the 32nd minute after taking a feed Christian Chavez and pushing a shot past freshman Pablo Gatinois (Madrid, Spain) for a 3-0 Bruin lead, which was carried into halftime.
Oregon State had an opportunity to net the early equalizer in the 13th minute after junior Don Tchilao (Chandler, Ariz.) put a shot past an outstretched Silva, but his attempt pinballed between both posts before getting pushed out by UCLA.
UCLA tacked on two more goals on the backend of the match. Knox recorded his brace in the 72nd minute on a feed from Blayne Martinez, while Roman Martin provided the final tally in the 85th minute for the 5-0 final.
Oregon State will close out the final road trip of the season with a Pac-12 contest against San Diego State on Sunday, October 29, with kickoff set for 12 p.m. PT.
