
Herman Clark Named To Polynesian Football HOF

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Former Oregon State football great Herman "Buddy" Clark is one of five inductees in the 2018 class for the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame, it was announced on Tuesday.

Clark, an offensive lineman from Honolulu who graduated from Punahou High School, lettered at OSU from 1949-51 under coach Kip Taylor. He was an All-Pacific Coast Conference selection in 1951, played in the East-West Shrine Game, and then was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears in 1952.

He was an All-Pro guard in 1955 and 1956 and was named to the NFL's Half-Century team. He was elected to the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990 and to the Hawai'i Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

The Inductees were selected by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee which includes Coaches Dick Tomey (Chairman), Ron McBride and Dick Vermeil, past NFLPA President and Inaugural Inductee Kevin Mawae, former NFL Player and Class of 2015 Inductee Ray Schoenke, ESPN Sportscaster Neil Everett, NFL player personnel legend Gil Brandt, NFL Network writer and commentator Steve Wyche, and Honolulu Sportscaster Robert Kekaula.
The Class of 2018Â will be honored during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend to be held on January 19 & 20, 2018 in Oahu, Hawai`i. The Polynesian Pro, College and High School Football Player of Year honorees will be announced later in the year.
Inductees will also be recognized at the inaugural Polynesian Bowl, a premier senior high school all-star football game featuring the world's elite players of Polynesian heritage and other ancestries.Â
Former Beaver great offensive lineman Rockne Freitas was inducted into the Polynesian Hall of Fame in 2015.
