Oregon State standout will continue career in professional ranks
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State midfielder David Norman Jr. has signed a professional contract with Whitecaps FC 2 of the United Soccer League, Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced Thursday.
"I'm pleased for David as I know he will be joining his childhood club," said Oregon State head coach Steve Simmons. "It's always nice to see another OSU player use their experience in Corvallis as a spring board to the next level. I have no doubts he will continue to make positive progress with the Whitecaps."
Norman, who played his freshman season with the Beavers in 2016, is a graduate of the Whitecaps Academy, and hails from Coquitlam, British Columbia. He will join former Beaver Will Seymore on the Whitecaps FC 2 roster.
Norman started 15 matches for Oregon State in 2016, leading the team with five assists. He tallied two goals in his freshman campaign, including the game-winner vs. Washington.
Norman first joined Whitecaps FC as a nine-year-old in the Prospects program. The Coquitlam, BC native later joined the U-15 Pre-Residency team before moving up through the U-16 and U-18 teams. In his last year in the Residency program, Norman started 20 of his 26 appearances with the U-18 team in the Development Academy league, scoring six goals.
