Anderson rewrites record book
April 02, 2016 | Women's Track & Field
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Junior Morgan Anderson ran the second-fastest 1500 meters in school history and four other members of Oregon State's middle distance crew had season-fastest times in the same event on Friday.
Running at the Stanford Invitational, Anderson took first in her section and cut more than a second off her all-time best by running 4:23.53 to win her section. Her former PR of 4:24.55, set at Eugene in 2015, was the second-fastest clocking in OSU history before Friday.
“Morgan ran ladies down,” in coming from behind to win her section, coach Kelly Sullivan said. “Her time should get her into the NCAA regionals.”
Over at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival at Cox Stadium, freshman Juliana Mount placed fifth in 4:30.68 and junior Holly Cavalluzzo took ninth in 4:31.55 in the 1500, lifetime bests by nearly a second apiece.
Senior Emily Weber was 22nd in a season-best 4:35.06, even though she was somewhat under the weather. Sophomore Kristiane Width was 26th in 4:36.02, also a lifetime best by four seconds.
Sophomore Samantha Lewis placed 40th in the 5000 in 17:26.90.
“Overall it was a great, great day,” Sullivan said.
Anderson was the only Beaver to run at Stanford on Friday. Mount will make her outdoor debut in the 800 at Stanford on Saturday. She ran 2:15.25 indoors at the Portland Invitational on Feb. 4, the No. 2 mark in school history.
The Beavers will compete at the Sun Angel Invitational in Tempe and the John Knight Invitational at Western Oregon next weekend.
