Ausman wins discus at UO meet

EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Melissa Ausman broke the 170-foot barrier and won the discus for the second week in a row on Friday to pace the Oregon State track & field program at the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field.
Ausman threw 171 feet, five inches on the last of her five attempts to hold off runner-up Itoham Aikhionbare of Oregon and win the 12-woman competition. Ausman also took first at the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State last weekend with a school-record throw of 173-7.
Helen Ann Haun cleared 12-3.25 to take second place in the pole vault. Gillette Field was fourth at 11-9.25.
Morgan Anderson placed sixth of 29 runners in the evening session of the 1500 meters in 4:24.80. Juliana Mount was 11th in 4:30.01, the ninth-fastest time in OSU history. Director of operations Geena Gall was second in 4:18.04.
Samantha Lewis (4:41.77) and Gwyneth McMorris (4:42.07) both ran season-bests and went 2-3 in the afternoon section of the 1500 meters.
The Beavers have now established eight school records and posted 27 all-time top-10 times or marks since starting the outdoor campaign at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Invitational on March 19.
The Oregon Relays conclude today. The Beavers will then compete at the Bulldog Invitational at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., on April 23; Fresno State is the host school.
OSU's lone home competition is the annual High Performance Meet, set for April 29-30 at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
