Beavers off to Hayward Field
April 14, 2016 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field program stays in-state this weekend for the Oregon Relays, set for Friday through Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The Beavers have already established eight school records and posted 26 all-time top-10 times or marks in four weekends of competition since starting the outdoor campaign at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Invitational on March 19. OSU coach Kelly Sullivan is hopeful that a quality field in Eugene will lead to even more top performances from his improving team.
“It's probably the best Oregon Relay meet in a few years,” Sullivan said. “The competition is outstanding and the weather is supposed to be favorable.
“The objective is to keep our momentum moving forward. All the events have great fields, the meet is set up perfectly and we couldn't ask for anything better.
“A few years ago, we might have just had a handful of people entered. Now, as we've grown as a program, it's exciting to have the sprints, the hurdles, the jumps, the throws, the middle distances and the distances all represented.
“We are all excited to see what happens in those areas.”
Athletes from OSU, Oregon, Montana, Boise State, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Gonzaga, several lower-division schools, community colleges and unattached competitors are entered. OSU director of operations Geena Gall, a 2012 Olympian, will run in the marquee 1500-meter race.
The Beavers will compete at the Bulldog Invitational at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., on April 23. Fresno State is the host school.
OSU's lone home competition is the annual High Performance Meet, set for April 29-30 at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
