Beavers head to MPSF meet
February 24, 2016 | Women's Track & Field
Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State track & Field team concludes a successful indoor season this weekend at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at the University of Washington.
The meet runs Friday and Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Center. The Beavers intend to improve upon their 2015 MPSF meet, when they scored five points in their inaugural championships appearance.
“Every meet we've done better and grown as a team,” coach Kelly Sullivan said. “Our expectations are to do exactly the same this weekend. That should allow us to score more points.
“Our main objective is to [take] another step physically and emotionally on how we prepare and perform in one of the best conference indoor meets” in the country.
The Beavers have set or tied school records in the pole vault (Helen Ann Haun, 12-1.50); weight throw (Melissa Ausman, 53-11.25); long jump (Jasmin McKenzie, 18-9.50), and 60 meters (Kerissa D'Arpino, 7.71) this winter.
They're also recorded 27 all-time top-10 performances, and established numerous personal-bests, since opening the four-week indoor campaign at the Washington Invitational on Jan. 29-30.
“We're have some individuals we feel can do some really good things and put themselves in the mix” to score, Sullivan said. “Both relays have a chance to do something special.
“We have jumpers and a hurdler who can score. We are just going to be a lot more competitive across the board. We will use this meet to catapult us into the outdoor season,” which opens March 19 at the Lewis & Clark Spring Invitational.
