Men's Golf Announces Spring Schedule
January 26, 2016 | Men's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's golf team opens its spring season next week, which includes six tournaments before the Pac-12 Championship.
The Beavers will compete in two February events, the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai'i from Thursday, Feb. 4 to Saturday, Feb. 6, and the Cabo Collegiate from Sunday, Feb. 28 through Tuesday, March 1.
"Each year we are going to do everything we can to give our guys the opportunity to play a strong schedule against the best in college golf,” Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. “In the fall that came at the Nike Collegiate Invitational and this spring it will come right at the beginning of the season in Hawaii and Cabo. Each of those fields will be stacked with teams inside the top 30 in the country and will provide our young men with the opportunity to show what they can do.
“After our trips to Hawaii and Cabo, our schedule is very unique in that we will not travel outside the Pacific Northwest for more than a month. Historically we have played well close to home in the spring time. Just like in any sport there is comfort in playing familiar surroundings, and when you have the chance to do that and include courses like Bandon Trails and Chambers Bay, it is hard to pass up.”
The Beavers have two March tournaments, both in the state of Oregon, beginning with the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon from Sunday, March 6 through Tuesday, March 8. The inaugural Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic will be hosted by Oregon State and held at the Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby on Monday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 22.
“We are excited to host the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic at Willamette Valley Country Club,” Reehoorn said. “Willamette Valley Country Club is a great course and will be a very strong test for the teams traveling to Oregon this March. With the NCAA Championships being hosted at Eugene Country Club, we wanted to host an event at a similar course to try and attract teams from around the country who might not normally make the trip to Oregon. I think we've accomplished this with the teams we have committed, which include East Tennessee State, San Diego, Wisconsin and UNLV.
“We are very thankful for the partnership with Airstream Adventures Northwest and their support of this event, along with also committing to be the title sponsor for the 44th Annual Oregon State Golf Tualatin Scramble in June. With their support we will be able to provide the student-athletes coming to Oregon in March with a great experience while also being able to enhance the experience we provide our student-athletes through their generous support.”
The final two tournaments before the Pac-12 Championship are the Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Wash. (April 4-5) and the El Macera Invitational in Davis, Calif. (April 15-17).
The conference championship will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah from Friday, April 29 to Sunday, May 1.
Oregon State concluded its fall season with third-place finishes at both the Saint Mary's Invitational and Husky Invitational, 13th at the Alister MacKenzie and 14th at the highly-competitive Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational.
