
Beavers Finish Third At Husky Invitational

SUNCADIA, Wash. – For the second straight tournament, the Oregon State men's golf team finished in third place, this time at the at the two-day, 54-hole Husky Invitational on Tuesday.
The Beavers opened their 2015-16 season with a third-place showing at the Saint Mary's Invitational. They put themselves in contention at the Husky Invite after 36 holes of play on Monday but slipped to third place in the 14-team field with a 17-over 289-289-291--869.
Washington and Oregon shared the team title with a 13-over 865 at the par-71, 6,887-yard Tumble Creek Club.
Junior Calum Hill, who was making his Oregon State debut after transferring from the University of Louisiana-Monroe, had the best round of the day for the Beavers, a 1-under 70, to move into a tie for 16th place with an 8-over 74-77-70--221.
Juniors Conner Kumpula and Kevin Murphy both recorded top-10 finishes. Kumpula had a career-best sixth-place showing with a 2-over 71-67-77--215 and Murphy finished in a tie for seventh with a 3-over 69-74-73--216. Kumpula's previous best finish was a tie for 17th place at the Husky Invitational two years ago. It was the fourth career top-10 finish for Murphy.
Senior Chris Tedesco continued his consistent play with a tie for 24th place after posting a 10-over 75-74-74--223 and sophomore Jonas Liebich finished in a tie for 34th with a 12-over 77-74-74--225.
The tournament also included a Husky Individual at the par-72, 7,112-yard Prospector Golf Course where five Oregon State golfers competed. Their results are: 2. Brian Jung 73-74-70--217 (+1); t17. Tyler Carlson 81-77-74--232 (+16); t22. Brent Grant 80-78-77--235 (+19); 38. Trevor Yu 84-77-84--245 (+29); 40. Tom Kerkvliet 83-83-86--252 (+36).
The Beavers have two weeks off before returning to action at the inaugural Nike Collegiate Invitational, which will be held Sunday, Oct. 4 through Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore.
