Doholis Selected POW; OSU Cracks NSCAA Poll
September 01, 2015 | Men's Soccer
Another day, another honor for Mikhail Doholis, and another breakthrough into the national polls for the Oregon State men's soccer team.
Doholis was named the Pacific-12 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday for his outstanding performances in victories over Marquette and No. 9 Michigan State this past weekend at the Hensor-Zaher Classic at Lorenz Field.
Doholis's scored the only goal of the game in the 97th minute following a brilliant run down to power the Beavers to a 1-0 overtime victory over Marquette on Aug. 28. He then assisted on a goal by sophomore Timmy Mueller to lead the Beavers to their 1-0 triumph over Michigan State on Aug. 30.
It's the second major honor of the week for Doholis, a senior forward from Union High School in Vancouver, Wash. He was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday.
Also on Tuesday, the Beavers moved to No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) weekly Top 25 poll. They were No. 34 in the preseason rankings.
The Beavers are now ranked in three of men's college soccer's top polls. They are No. 15 in the Bennett Rankings, conducted by HeroSports.com, and No. 19 in the College Soccer News poll.
OSU's weekend victories stretched their home non-conference winning streak to 19 consecutive games. They have not lost at Lorenz Field since Sept. 23, 2011, a 2-1 setback to Missouri-Kansas City.
The Beavers take their 2-0 record on the road to face Vermont at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Merlo Field in Portland. The Catamounts are coached by Jesse Cormier, an OSU assistant from 2001-03.
