SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Sophomore forward Jordan Jones scored twice to lift the Oregon State men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over San Diego State Sunday afternoon in San Diego, Calif.
With another impressive match, Jones extended his team lead to nine goals this season. Freshman Don Tchilao scored the first goal of his collegiate career to seal the match for the Beavers.
The Beavers were the aggressor from the start, taking an early 4-1 lead on the shot counter. Jones got the breakthrough in the 13th minute, hammering home a shot from close range following a cross from Tchilao.
Jones followed that up with another goal just before the break, heading the ball into the net to give Oregon State a two-goal advantage heading into the intermission.
San Diego State cut the edge to 2-1 early in the second half, but the Beavers bounced back to clinch the game in the closing stages. Tchilao scored the first goal of his career with five minutes to play. The freshman was on the receiving end of a feed from Jones this time, finding the net from 10-yards out to seal the victory.
The Beavers and Aztecs finished the match with 10 shots apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Nolan Wirth tallied four saves in the match.
The Beavers will host their 2015 Senior Day Thursday, when they take on Washington at 2 p.m. That match will be part of the Northwest Rivalry Series presented by Alaska Airlines.
