Seattle, Wash. – The Oregon State cross country team placed 19th in a 35-team field on Friday at the NCAA West Regional meet at the Jefferson Park Golf Course.
“We ran well,” OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. “We will build off today's performance and with almost everyone coming back, some injured and redshirting runners returning and a good recruiting class, I anticipate bigger things next season.”
Holly Cavalluzzo led the Beavers by taking 67th place in 21:56 to. The junior from Montgomery, N.Y., was OSU's top finisher in all six races this fall.
“Holly is a little disappointed she didn't finish up a bit higher,” Sullivan said, but she did improve by 43 places from her 2014 regional performance.
Juliana Mount (pictured finishing at Pac-12 championships) concluded a strong freshman season by placing 76th in 21:56. She did not run with the varsity until Oct. 16 and was OSU's No. 2 finisher in all three of her counting races.
“Juliana ran an exceptional race,” Sullivan said.
Also scoring for the Beavers were junior Samantha Lewis, 91st in 22:16; junior Kira Kelly, 115th in 22:26, and senior Adrienne Demaree, 182nd in 23:28. Juniors Morgan Anderson (194th, 23:40) and Maureen Tremblay (201st, 23:50) also competed.
“Sam Lewis had her best race of the season and Kira, coming off a year in which she had mono for part of the season, finished on a high note,” Sullivan added.
Oregon (79) and Boise State (80) went 1-2 in the team competition and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA championships, set for Nov. 21 in Louisville. Several other top teams from the regional will be selected as at-large entrants.
Friday was the final college race for Demaree, a four-year letter winner from Jesuit High School in Portland. A two-time winner of Pac-12 all-academic honors who has also been nominated this year, she is OSU's lone graduating senior.
