November 13, 2015 | Men's Soccer
Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Washington at Lorenz Field on Thursday in its final game of the season.
The Beavers (8-9-1, 3-6-1 Pac-12) trailed 1-0 at halftime and spent the second half chasing the equalizer. However, Washington (8-5-6, 4-3-3 Pac-12) keeper Ryan Herman preserved the lead with a diving save of a header by Timmy Mueller midway through the second half to deny OSU's best scoring opportunity.
OSU outshot Washington 8-6 in the second half, when Mueller had two of his three shots on goal. The Huskies outshot OSU 17-15 overall and had a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks, mostly (7) in the first half.
Washington registered the only goal at 37:14 when Mason Robinson directed home a cross from Justin Fiddes for his first marker of the season. Keeper Nolan Wirth had several excellent stops to keep the Beavers in position to tie and finished with six overall.
Jaime Velasco, Mikhail Doholis, Jordan Jones and Don Tchilao also had shots on goal for OSU.
Goalie Tyler Back, midfielder Phillip van Berkom, Velasco and Doholis played their final game and were honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony. Doholis was a four-year letterman; van Berkom and Velasco lettered twice after transferring from Longwood and Portland, respectively, and Back lettered once after transferring from Mary Washington.
The game was part of the Northwest Rivalry Series, presented by Alaska Airlines.
