Markey Earns Pac-12 Honor, Beavers No. 16
October 06, 2015 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS – Redshirt-sophomore defender Jalen Markey has been named the Pac-12 men's soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The honor is the first of Markey's career, and the third for the Beavers this season, joining senior Mikhail Doholis and sophomore Timmy Mueller.
Markey, a sociology major, played all 191 minutes for the Oregon State men's soccer team this weekend, helping the Beavers post a pair of clean sheets to jump out to a 2-0 record at the start of conference play. Markey and fellow sophomore Sam Tweeton anchored an OSU back-line that shut-out UCLA in a 1-0 double-overtime win, as the Beavers recorded their first victory over the Bruins since 2005. Oregon State followed that up by blanking San Diego State in a 1-0 win on Sunday.
Markey is the third Beaver to earn TDS Team of the Week recognition this season, joining Timmy Mueller and Mikhail Doholis.
As a team, the Beavers come in at No. 16 in the NSCAA rankings this week, and No. 21 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll. With two wins to open conference play, OSU sits atop the Pac-12 Conference this week for the first time since 2005. Oregon State hits the road for a pair of tough road matches against California and No. 3 Stanford on Friday and Sunday, respectively
