Beavers to Run at Bradley Invitational
October 05, 2015 | Women's Cross Country
Oregon State cross country coach Kelly Sullivan announced Monday the Beavers would miss the Oct. 16 NCAA Pre-Nationals meet and run instead at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill., that day.
The 6,000-meter Bradley race will be held on the Newman Golf Course, starting at 3:05 p.m. Illinois is the defending women's team champion; Maria McDaniel of Western Michigan was the individual champion in 2014 in 20:41.
“It's closer to home, which makes for far less travel, and we will still face a quality field,” Sullivan said.
Big Ten schools Illinois, Missouri and Iowa are expected to compete, as are regionally-ranked Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois and IUPUI, among others.
Also, Sullivan announced that junior Emily Weber would redshirt this year. She was OSU's top finisher at the 2014 NCAA West Regional meet (57th), and its No. 4 finisher at the 2014 Pac-12 meet (74th).
“Emily has an off-campus internship this term that just doesn't give her the time,” to compete at the highest level, Sullivan said. “It's just something we needed to do” for the South Salem graduate, a two-time, first-team Pacific-12 Conference all-academic selection majoring in exercise and sports science.
She will be the second member of last year's starting lineup to redshirt this season. Sophomore Sam McKinnon, OSU's No. 2 runner at Pac-12s (65th) and No. 6 at regionals (150th) is also not competing this fall.
