CORVALLIS – The Major League Soccer Playoffs are just around the corner, and the Beavers have a number of players scattered across the professional ranks. As the top American league prepares for the final weekend of the regular season, here's a look at what Oregon State alumni have done professionally this year.
Alan Gordon – LA Galaxy: Gordon is looking to continue his decorated career with another postseason run this season. The Galaxy are currently second in the Western Conference, and have already secured a spot in the playoffs. Gordon, who already has two MLS Cups under his belt, has played in 28 matches this year, including seven starts. The forward has notched five goals for the Galaxy while playing with international legends Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane, and continued his international career this summer when he was called up to the US National Team for the Gold Cup.
Robbie Findley – Toronto FC: After spending the majority of his MLS career with Real Salt Lake, Findley joined Toronto FC this year and did not skip a beat. The forward has made 17 starts, while appearing in 24 games, often alongside fellow US Internationals Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore. Overall, Findley has notched two goals and three assists in the 2015 campaign. He will now set his sights on a second-career MLS Cup, as Toronto FC prepares for the postseason, having already locked down a playoff spot.
Khiry Shelton – New York City FC: Shelton's career got off to a very strong start. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft recorded an assist in his first career start on April 19, and followed that up by scoring the game-tying goal in stoppage time against Chicago Fire on May 15. Despite missing time this year due to injury, Shelton played in 16 matches and made six starts, playing alongside the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard.
Danny Mwanga – Orlando City SC: Mwanga has joined Orlando City in its inaugural season as an expansion franchise. The forward has made one start and four appearances this season, while playing for the same squad a Brazilian legend Kaka.
